Dawn Patrol #6 & #7: Meet Sky & Blue

Dawn Patrol #6 & #7: Meet Sky & Blue

Some dogs trot down to Dog Beach like they own the place. Sky and Blue don't trot — they glide, all long legs and easy confidence, moving like the ocean itself decided to take the shape of a dog. Denis and his wife arrive at the water's edge with their two boys in tow every week, and without fail, heads turn.

Sky and Blue are Great Dane/Husky mixes, two years old and very much still figuring out that their bodies are enormous. The Dane gives them that regal, unhurried presence — the kind of dogs who seem to survey a beach the way a general surveys a battlefield, calm and certain. The Husky gives them those eyes. Pale, striking, full of something ancient and wolfy that makes you stop mid-sentence when one of them looks at you.

They are brothers, bonded from the start. Sky and Blue came to Denis and his wife through Priceless Pet Rescue in Costa Mesa, and the name couldn't be more fitting for a pair of dogs this beautiful. They are, simply put, the kind of dogs that make strangers reach for their phones and ask if they can take a picture.

At two years old, they are still very much puppies on the inside — bounding into the shallows, circling back to check on their people, nudging each other with the easy comfort of brothers who have never spent a day apart. Whatever the morning holds, Sky and Blue are in it together, and Denis and his wife wouldn't have it any other way.

See you out there at dawn. 🐾
